West Lothian Community Choices

A pot of Developer Contributions is currently allocated for improvements aimed specifically at the East Calder Park (located behind the Dave King Partnership Centre). Developer Contributions are payments from housing developers to the Council, to improve it’s parks and ensure they serve the increasing local population.

Historically, a public consultation was held, and a masterplan design was created in response to the consultation outcomes. Since then, the Developer Contributions pot allowed for the construction of the 3G pitch in the park.

The Council is now hoping to utilise the remainder of the pot to improve the park. This survey is informed by both the original masterplan aims and the current state of the Park. The results will inform how we structure the project, and support an application for drawing down from the fund.

Please fill out the survey below to help us make the most positive impact for you and your community. We recommend that you visit the Park before filling out the rest of the survey, or even fill it out in the Park itself.

We encourage all children to fill the survey out themselves or with some help. This is a great way to help foster independence and an active relationship with public spaces around them.

The survey deadline is 22 February 2026.

1. East Calder Park Skate Park

1. East Calder Park Skate Park

The skate park at East Calder Park had deteriorated over time and a decision was made to remove this facility as a safety measure. If the public is in support, the Developer Contributions could be used to build a better and more robust skate park in the park.

The Council will only be able to build the Skate Park if there is a majority vote in support from the public, and only if the Developer Contributions pot application is successful.

Above is a concept design to illustrate the possible new skate park. Please note this design is not final, but we will aim to deliver as close as possible to this design.

1.1 Do you support using the funding to build a new skate park?

2. East Calder Park - Wider Improvements

2.1 Below is a list of possible improvements we could implement in the Park. These items are informed both by previous public consultation, and West Lothian Council Open Space Standards for a Neighbourhood Park.

Please number the options from 1(most popular) — 11 (least popular). The top rating options will be given priority in terms of funding and timescale. We hope to implement as many options as possible, but please note that the funding may not afford the delivery of all options.

Biodiversity & habitat enhancements in the wider parkland, for example native tree planting or creation of meadows
Additional paths to help improve accessibility & legibility through the park and to create more walking routes
Expanding the play area to approximately twice the current footprint, with additional equipment for all age groups between 0-18years , improved accessibility and improved inclusive play facilities
Rebuilding of the skate park as further detailed in question 1
Upgrading the current pump track into a specialised asphalt pump track
Upgrading the basketball court into a MUGA (Multi-use Games Area)
Improved and formalised access points into the park and improved signage throughout
Ecological enhancements along the burn to the west edge of the park, including sustainable urban drainage solutions and habitat creation
Natural and Informal play opportunities throughout the park
Creating an outdoor gym and running track
Extended and more varied seating and shelter throughout the park

2.2 Please use the box below to note any other ideas, or expand on the options in question 2.1.

Next steps:-

Survey answers will be analysed and presented in a formal report early next year.

The report will be available to view at the following website : https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/parkinfo

Recommendations in the report will help inform improvement works at the Park. We hope to begin the project in the next financial year of 2026-2027.
